Why did Jesus meet Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration — and why were Abraham, David, Isaiah, or other great biblical figures not there?

In Matthew 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain where something extraordinary happens: His appearance changes, His clothes become dazzling white, and suddenly Moses and Elijah appear and speak with Him.

But why these two men?

Why Moses? Why Elijah? Why not Abraham, the father of faith? Why not King David, the ancestor of the Messiah? And what was God revealing through this mysterious meeting?

In this biblical documentary, we explore the deeper meaning of the Transfiguration of Jesus, the connection between Moses, Elijah, the Law, the Prophets, Mount Sinai, and the identity of Jesus Christ. Scholars have proposed several connections, including the fact that both Moses and Elijah encountered God on a mountain and that their appearance helps frame the Transfiguration within Israel's biblical story.
