Are Mormons Christian?

This week the Pentagon released a revised military chaplain religious classification list under Pete Hegseth — and when Mormonism wasn’t categorized under Christianity, the internet absolutely exploded.

As a former lifelong Mormon woman, I break down Mormonism’s long history of rejecting mainstream Christianity, the doctrine of the “Great Apostasy,” anti-Catholic rhetoric from LDS prophets, religious exclusivity, patriarchy, and why high-demand religions always need an “other.”

This video explores Mormon identity, deconstruction, feminism, faith, tribalism, and what it actually means to follow Jesus.

Hi thanks for watching, I've had SO MANY of you asking me to talk about the Pentagon list, I skipped my hike today to write a script. The Patriarchal Religions of America have been battling each other FOREVER, and they always will.

I'd love to hear from you: How do YOU define a Christian?

Gandhi stated: "I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

"Playing church" reminds me of the preparation for receiving my First Communion: My mom would put a candy Necco wafer in my hand and say, "Body of Necco."
Eventually she decided it was blasphemous, but I think she was really just getting bored.

Good thing that your authority to say who is Christian stops at the end of your nose.

And I left BOTH Mormonism and Christianity once I reached the age of reason because I read and understood my Bible.

"Mormonism is a cult". That's what my devout Roman Catholic mother told me growing up! I agree with her.

I’ve had some Mormon coworkers and fellow students here and there over the years. They were always so nice, hardworking, and a pleasure to be around. However, there was a certain smugness about them! I’ve always wondered where they got that patronizing attitude toward others, and your videos have helped me understand their world view. In their eyes no matter how good a person I am, I’m not in the “club”, and am destined for hell I guess, lol.

(Chuckles) From “The only true church” to the only church with “Christ” in its name not recognized as Christian. Oh, the wicked webs we weave…

One of the biggest problems with religions is they all think they are the one true and only correct religion.

I compare Christians and Mormon to Hindus and Buddhists. Buddhism is decended from Hinduism and they share some fundamental beliefs, but they're not the same religion. Southern Baptists and Catholics have a lot more in common than either to Mormonism.

Let me tell you: there are a lot of Christian denominations that also believe they are the only true church such as Jehovah Witnesses . I used to belong to the now defunct Worldwide Church of God and guess what - we were the only true church too!

when i was in college I had an "interfaith dialog" with two stake presidents where the presenters said in order for us to have this dialog, you have to accept that all other churches have fallen into apostasy.

I remember they always said we Mormons don't wear crosses because we focus on the resurrection instead of his death 🙄
