They don’t want you talking about with others because then you guys could compare notes and realize it’s fake. I’m so sorry you grew up like this.

Patriarchal blessing... "Uphold patriarchal power structures and like it."

My AP psychology teacher was the one who explained to me that my patriarchal blessing was fortune-telling, and that all fortune tellers use similar vague and mystical crap 😂. Still surprised he was brave enough to do that.

As a lifelong member, returned missionary and three years out of this charade I am amazed by the level of clarity that you just gave me over my behaviors in the past. Thank you so very much for your bravery and bringing this to our awareness so we can all recover from this cognitive dissonance.

I went to a fortune teller on my own, age 11 (so like 1980). She said, “you will work with computers in some way.” She was right, but as my mother said, everybody will be working with computers, they are your future.

Seems like a short sighted fortune 😂

I also wonder how similar patriarchal blessings are to each other given how homogenous the population of Mormons turn out to be.

Your strength will always bring the opposition of the weak. It takes immense amount of guts let alone time to prepare, record, edit and finally share something so true and vulnerable. I so appreciate you, as many others who do but don’t / aren’t able to comment. You’ve got support in the tides of thousands :) and opposition in overwhelming number. Takes a VERY strong individual to stand even a minute against that.

I managed to get away from this cult before this patriarchal "blessing" was given. The person to give this "blessing" was to be my father. My abuser. So glad I got away. Long story, but that's enough for now.

Mormon ppl were knocking on my door a few weeks ago speaking out about women being abused and sharing resources for women they seemed like really nice ppl so I shared my story with them and how I escaped my abusive ex and moved states and they were just stunned hearing everything I went threw I haven't seen them since then.

Could it be, that every girl gets the same text?! So it would make sense not to be allowed to share...

I suspect that the patriarchical blessing played an extremely important role in the days of polygamy as the blessing would come at the time when young girls were prepped for marriage.
A patriarch might predict that the teenage girl would marry a sixty year old man ... low and behold the girl would become the fourth wife of a sixty year old man the next week ... and the girl's fate would be sealed for eternity.

The Bible forbids talking to fortune tellers. How do Mormons wrap their heads around the conflicts between the Bible and their doctrine

I am not LDS, but lived in Utah ‘Mormon Capital’, for 14 years from 1993-2007. It’s a different life for sure. I went to many Farewells, Home Coming and attended Enrichment. Where I lived and worked, everyone was Mormon. I was the only none-Mormon at my job. I do not believe in the religion but supported my friends when it came to their life events. Also the town did not look down at you if you were not Mormon which might be rare. In Utah, church rule state which is crazy. I do agree that Mormon’s is about family. You have many programs to help single mothers, at least where I lived. But will admit its is like a cult. More younger people are leaving the church because of strict rules and beliefs and just the craziness of it. You do not realize how crazy the Mormon religion is until you live in the real world.

This is all very bizarre to me to be honest and outside of my experiences with any kind of church I was apart of …
