Try before you buy? No. An important part of becoming one in marriage is the process of learning one another with each other. Relationships (and sex) take curiosity and communication, and the Perrys talk about how there’s joy in figuring things out together.
Our bodies matter to God. There’s protection in His design for sex to be experienced within the covenant of marriage, and God is grieved any time we give our bodies away.
A conversation like this can feel condemning, but God is merciful to restore our purity, remove memories of past intimacy, and help us point others to the hope of the Gospel too.

Food is one of the scariest idols because gluttony is so socially accepted and even encouraged to an extent especially in America

I really love the book of Joel. Joel tells us that God can restore what you’ve destroyed during your disobedience and rebellion when we were in the world. He is everything to everyone and all you need to do is turn, trust and follow Him.

I feel like Preston's point about sex being blinding got a bit overlooked but it is VERY true.
Many people stay in destroying relationships for much longer than they should just because the sex is so good.
Abstinence removes that obstacle and help you see things for what they are and act accordingly.

47:33 to piggyback off of what Jackie said, in the midst of my own porn addiction, some years ago, I would find a video that gave me that high and save it for later. But when I came back to it, it didn't hit the same, so I found myself looking for something more raunchy until I felt that high again. That continued for years until I realized I went a little deep for a little too long looking for that high. I do think thats how people end up taking that perversion from the privacy of their bedroom to outside society. The videos and the normal sex don't hit anymore, so they do something different, risky, dangerous, or even illegal to feel that high.

I realized that people don’t really stop having sex once they start. It’s like once you lose your virginity sex becomes a norm but not celibacy. At one point, when I was trying celibacy, I was like I don’t think I can wait until marriage. I tried for a year— failed. I tried for another year and failed again. Now the concept of waiting for marriage seems easier because my understanding of the purpose and power of sex has grown. It’s not so easy to give your body away when you understand the repercussions

Facts! I'm grateful to be in a church where a couple having their first kiss at the altar is normal and the standard and where pure dating is encouraged. Really inspires me as a young single Christian that it is totally possible🥰

I was introduced to porn at 7 while using my dad’s computer for schoolwork and so happened to click a link after going into the browser’s history. My parents were rarely home but now as an adult, I realize my addiction formed out of neglect and wanting connection from the two people I loved the most. Essentially this led to promiscuity in my 20s and devalued my body. I’m 32 and struggle daily to break the stronghold the enemy set out to destroy my connection between God His son Jesus and brother Holy Spirit. I ask them to forgive me constantly.

I hear and agree with 100% of what ya'll said... but man....dealing with Same-sex attraction and now abstaining from sex for more than 2 years (5th year in christ in April)....like, I'm just a man....the desire to want sexual intimacy for the same sex is so strong sometimes I just can't keep it up😥😫....I'm still holding strong but my God it's hard. Sometimes feels like I just wanna shut that conviction off and scratch that it but then the fear of the Lord snatches me right back...chileee

Man as someone who has gone through much sexual abuse, and then made my own sexual choices as a teenager and adult (now I’ve been celibate for over 2 years and waiting for my husband), I’m thanking God for how He’s going to restore and redeem all things. I can’t wait for marriage and the covenant and safety and all things being redeemed and restored in Jesus’ name! He is a restorer and a redeemer. Devil can’t have my future marriage in the name of Jesus! ❤

In my sexual brokenness, I am still learning that my garden is sacred. Not everyone is meant to enter this space, because it is where I meet Him, where I am centered, and where my healing bears much fruit.
When I look back, I see how early the boundaries of my garden were violated. At eight years old, my innocence was violated by someone entrusted with my care. For two years, she harmed me, and afterwards the world no longer felt safe. My eyes were opened to things no child should ever see - pornography, sexualized images, masturbation, and objects meant for adult bodies. Even within my own home, I was sexualized by my mom. Intimacy became something tangled with fear, confusion, and survival.
At twenty-three, I was raped. Pregnant (a beautiful God-given gift). And in the aftermath, I stayed with a man who saw my body as something to use. To him, my body was an object; to survive, this five year journey with him, I learned to participate in my own survival by disconnecting from myself. My body kept the score long before I had language to understand what was happening.
In my singleness, at 49, I ask myself: Do I see my body as good enough? And even more honestly: Have the ways I've tried to satisfy my body actually been ways I've devalued it?
These questions are not accusations - they are invitations. Healing is about reclaiming sacred ground. To see my body not as a site of harm, but as a sacred place worthy of protection, tenderness, and truth. My garden belongs to God - a sacred sanctuary. And slowly, gently, I am learning to see it as good (EMDR therapy).
I am grateful for this episode - for creating space where these truths can surface and where I am reminded that my garden is worth guarding. (IA native)

As an Addiction Professional, I have to say that is the BEST description of how addiction forms and why it gets sustained for so long, AND why recovery is so difficult I've heard someone use in a long time.

I wish y’all could have touched on how “the world” thinks we shouldn’t be or can’t be with the same person “forever!” I think you can be with the same person forever!

21:42 timestamp, The Lord just gave this to me; what if my singleness, is God giving me time. There’s a process and He’s after Glory. He gets to choose how He gets Glory out of my life, not me. He chooses how long it takes, He’s teaching me that delighting in Him is also delighting in His process.

There are a lot of overweight, lonely, 🌽 addicted people that are suffering from the weight of sin. The branch into gluttony wasn't off topic at all!
