   I hope there is no gear 6, but simply mastery of gear 5. Gear 5 is joy and laughter incarnate and that is the ultimate power of existence. What can top that symbolically?

   I don’t know about Gear 6, but based on what’s been shown, the Ring could be more like an Unmastered Ultra Instinct-to-Mastered Ultra Instinct situation, where Gear 5th is the Final Form, but he hasn’t mastered it yet (he doesn’t even know he has the Nika Fruit).

   Imu’s powers really are godly. If luffy gets a version of them at any point, it’s going to be ridiculously broken. Especially the covenants

   I honestly think that gear six is gonna look like for Luffy is how Nika is depicted in elbaph for the first time. Slightly longer hair sword and shield. I noticed that in the images they show that Nika has darker skin, like a lunarian or ! Maybe it’s full body armament haki perhaps? And I could totally see him having an upgraded scarf on his back like Imu and zaza!

    iirc Awakening for Zoan type fruits is only possible when 1) the user's body can physically handle the transformatipn AND 2) when the user's personality matches with whatever constitutes a personality for the devil fruit. It's not enough to be strong and apable enough, the fruit has to actually accept you. Kaido's fruit was supposedly a guardian deity and Kaido sure as hell was NOT that, hence why he never awakened while Yamato's was also a guardian diety and she better embodied that role thus her hagoromo scarf. Lucci is a predator much like his devil fruit, and Kaku loves giraffes, so that's the other half of the reason they could awaken their respective fruits. That's also why Luffy's awakening happened, he's basically just like Nika with or without the fruit. Luffy's just naturally like that, always has been and always will be, so that's why he was able to achieve Gear 5.

    Idk if the Elders have fruits cuz Imu could’ve given them omen rings like he did Killingham and Shepard, but, minus the jailer beast guards, and maybe Kidd (cuz I can’t draw a connection yet), all awakened users embody the dream of the original person or people who thought of the fruit enough for it to materialize. Mochi is sticky and kat believes family sticks together, Leopard is a wild carnivorous animal and Lucci is a rabid bloodthirsty assassin, strings or lines bring things together or control things and Doffy was a literal puppet master. It makes more sense that a zoan “has a mind of its own” cuz it would act as a final deterrent against the wrong person obtaining and awakening specific categories and classes of fruits.

    I’d say awakenings come from the will of the fruit and will of the user aligning and some level of your body being able to exhibit and handle those abilities. Luffy awakened his because he wants to be free which is the essence of the Nika fruit, Yamato wants to protect Wano which aligns with his fruit, Killingham doesn’t want to do too much and sleep as a celestial would which may be the desire of someone with a Kirin fruit. I imagine Kaido isn’t awakened because he didn’t want to conquer like the azure dragon but looked to die because he had peaked. Marco has no desire to continue to be reborn and rise again which one could argue a phoenix’s true purpose. I’d imagine Ragnir hasn’t awakened because a hammer can’t have a will to match the will of the DF. I think this would also explain in some way the failed awakenings in impel down (maybe the body can’t handle the fruit yet or the persons will is too weak when they awaken). This would align with Kaidos words and what he was saying in a way as well, but would also add in a final part, maybe something that he was missing, since he himself wasn’t awakened.

    I've always wondered if we've thought about that scarf/ring being the actual deity manifesting? Thats the finality in mythical zoans the god coming back out of the fruit because it's fully aligned with the user. Not for example, the user just leaching the power of the god. So the black ring is actually the devil and nerona imu is himself (but he's fully aligned his will with the devil) so they function as one not, imu using the devils power. The fruits are clearly alive in some way, so luffy going gear 5/5.6 would be manifesting and working with Nika as a unit (sort of like how Naruto and Kurama worked until they made up and became a team)

    I feel like gear six is gonna be a simple gear second but in gear five mode. That always comes to mind when I think of how Nika is the sun god and it makes sense considering second increases body heat and strength.

    Honestly, Oda telling us that was his peak (thru Luffy's dialog) seems a lot like bait... Like, why does he needs to tell us that? Why not just leave things open? I honestly don't buy it.
    
    I'd like to see something whacky like Gear 10 (Gear 5 multiplied by gear 2), or in other words, a gear 5 with an overdose of gear 2, making Luffy even faster and stronger. Would be cool but it's really a stretch.

    Head canon at its finest. I think it just comes down to what looks cool and how ODA wants to design the character. I also think Luffy would have a glowing sun behind him, not a ring. It would make more sense
