When I have trouble praying, like it feels like I’m talking to a wall, I just say “Lord, I sit here with my heart open to you” then stop talking and just sit there in prayer.
I think sometimes we can get so caught up in talking we neglect listening.

I’m in the Church of Christ and have been since birth. Church history isn’t making me Catholic but it certainly is making me mainline. I’m currently a closet Lutheran. It’s been a years long journey. I’m hoping one day I can muster up the courage to leave but my church is big with lots of programs and good community. It’s hard. Pray for me. Thank you 🙏

I find it funny to blame, deflecting, and so unfair to our Lord to look at what I didn’t receive growing up as a Catholic. Everything was there for me. I had to only seek Him to gain understanding of the beauty of the Catholic faith. I thank God for the graces He bestowed upon me to open my eyes and truly see Him and His love for us in the Sacraments.

As a Christian, I will still hold the Bible as the authoritative source of truth rather than Church traditions. Church traditions can be change, can be deceptive, can be made from lies but the Bible is God's Holy Words and it is came from Him. Just like Bereans in the book of Acts, they hold the Scriptures as the only authoritative source of truth rather than the traditions of their fathers.

That's what happened to me 1:36:33 I was Protestant for 30yrs and truly grateful for my background, for they taught me how to love the scriptures and discipline. But I always had a love and drawing in my heart for Catholicism but feared the Papacy. Therefore I became Orthodox for 3yrs, but something was missing there and I told my Priest (orthodox)at the time that I had a love for Catholicism and to my shock he told me felt the same. We ( Family)made our move home to the Catholic faith and loving it and growing but its come at a cost. But I had to listen to my conscience.

I went from Catholic to protestant. Catholics pray to others other than Jesus. They call other people other than God "father" (their priests), they pray to saints and Mary and the angels, when the bible says to only pray to Jesus. There's just a lot that they do that isn't scriptural. Plus they don't teach Jesus like the protestants.

I appreciate this conversation as a former Protestant (over 20 years) and now reverted Catholic. I can see that this is the platform for them to genuinely wrestle with their own beliefs, and though I greatly disagree with some (particularly divine authority to pray to saints, right there in Macabees and revelation, not to mention praying to God alone is never mentioned, as well as Petrine authority, another comment laid the historical and scriptural backing thoroughly) I can truly see the genuine heart of these two men of God! I love hearing what my brothers and sisters of Christ hold as convictions. I would say- opening with the concession that scripture alone is an inference but these Catholic inferences through scripture are false is a bit of a head scratcher for me!
