"Why do your emotions make decisions before you get the chance to? This video explores what the Bible actually teaches about self-control — not as the suppression of feeling, but as the freedom to choose your response while the feeling is still present. Through the stories of Elijah, David, Joseph, and the psalmist Asaph, we trace why emotions gain command authority, what faithfulness looks like in the middle of a feeling you did not choose, and how one small daily practice can begin reshaping the way you respond.
Main Scripture references: Proverbs 25:28, James 1:19-20, 1 Kings 19:1-13, Romans 12:1-2, 1 Samuel 24:1-7, Genesis 45:1-5, Ephesians 4:26-32, Psalm 77:1-12, Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Timothy 1:7.
Seven-day challenge: When a feeling rises that wants an immediate response, give yourself one breath and one sentence. The breath is to pause. The sentence is to name what you feel. Write it down. At the end of seven days, read what you wrote.

Proverbs 16:32 — “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”
Anger, worry, sadness, anxiety, fear, and doubt are real emotions, but they don’t have to become the ones making our decisions. Biblical self-control doesn’t mean pretending we don’t feel anything, it means learning to pause, bring what we feel before God, and choose our response wisely.
You may not control the first emotion that rises, but with God’s help, you can choose what you do with it. Instead of allowing fear to lead, anger to speak, or worry to take over, invite God into the moment and respond from truth rather than impulse.
You don’t have to be ruled by what you feel. Let God’s wisdom guide what you do with what you feel.
God bless us all 🤍🙏🤍
