Step into the fragile and resilient heart of the human spirit — a place where joy collides with sorrow, where fleeting wonder is shadowed by disillusionment, and where poetry becomes the vessel for both torment and relief. In this full narrative reading from Original Strange Fairy Tales And Other Stories, journey through Florence Njoki’s The Blank Mind, a collection that captures life’s contradictions in vivid, unflinching verse.
✨ A Little Background:
Florence Njoki is a Nairobi-based writer and poet who finds her presence in the world through writing. She has been a writer for as long as she can remember, in spirit and in action, as she tries to make sense of the world around her. She writes about the joys and conflicts of life, the magic and disillusionment from one moment to the next, the dark side of a bright smile, the pain and relief of busy days, the simplicity and difficulty of existence, and all the contradictions of life that bring happiness and torment.
Her work has appeared in the East African Sunday Standard and Poetica Magazine, and her debut collection, The Blank Mind, was released on August 8th, 2023. Florence’s love for writing is only rivaled by her love for cats.
This reading explores her world of raw honesty and reflection: poems that whisper of longing, cry out with grief, shimmer with fleeting hope, and hold space for resilience. To read them is to step inside a mind where silence speaks, and where the contradictions of existence become both haunting and beautiful.
