When you learn about where the American Civil War got started, most history books will tell you it officially began at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12, 1861.

However, you could make the argument that the American Civil War ACTUALLY began in Kansas.

I'm a simple man. I see John Brown, I watch the video and as long as it's not pushing a lost cause narrative I like the video.

It’s always interesting to see how violent the US was before the civil war. It really puts into perspective how it isn’t just a sudden outbreak of violence that started the civil wars but a build up

Lowkey dropping this right before the KU-Mizzou football rivalry game (also known as the border war) is perfect timing. Thank you for the amazing history

John Brown's work is still unfinished today. None of us are free until ALL of us are free.

I firmly believe that the “popular sovereignty” set the precedent of people claiming the confederacy was fighting for “states rights.” It was always about slavery.

It's sad that I went to public schools here in the state of Kansas, and how quickly a lot of this information was brushed over in class. I even remember one of my history teachers attempting to make a claim to my class of impressionable children, that slavery was blown out of proportion and there weren't actually that many slaves.

It wasn't until repeating that information to other people in my life that I realized our teacher was trying to mislead us.

Shout out to Mr. Beat for bring a real teacher ❤

Despite it all, I admire John Brown. He represents the bloody path towards equality that America has walked every single day from 1776 to the present. His soul is certainly marching on.

Born and raised in Missouri. Lived most of my life here. Didn't know I was supposed to hate Kansas. It will be an adjustment but I'll try.

The production quality of this video is top tier. I remember Bleeding Kansas in high school history class. But I never knew the events surrounding it were that tragic.
