When I told my bother (who plays jazz and musical theater and teaches as his career) I was gonna start playing at church the FIRST thing he told me was “get your tom grooves ready!”
The second thing was builds. So many builds.

All is good until you're invited to an African Church and you have to play sebene for 40 mins nonstop

Am I wrong for hating all this "tom/tribal beat" stuff? I know drummers who will play songs without even touching a snare!
To me, playing a "straight beat" works fine and the snare keeps everyone in time...

Thanks - what are your tune bot settings for the toms, kick and snare?

Cool to see Stephen working with WA. Thanks for tackling the topic. The tom grooves are not my favorite, but there are some songs that utilize them well. This tutorial is very helpful. Would love a tutorial on adapting these tom groove songs to a different style like rock or metal 😂

Sick of Tom grooves. Every song sounds the same.
