“I haven’t had this wine before, I just wanted to see if you could get it” is exactly who Alton is

I love how Alton retired and immediately went off into the woods of YouTube like a deranged wizard released from his duty for the kingdom

This deserves an Emmy. I’ve never seen Alton so vulnerable, raw, honest. Hands down this is your best interview ever Josh. I can’t imagine the pressure of meting your hero.

“You haven’t actually experienced something, until you have reflected on it”
You never expect the foodies to drop this kind of knowledge, and yet it’s always them.

This has to be Josh's best interview. You can see him shine because he's in the company of his idol. An incredibly intellectual conversation.

Alton is so predisposed to monologue. And Josh let him go for the first half until he was fully disarmed and then their conversation became so much more open. Beautiful

“I’ve shared honestly with a person who I will now call my friend” wow I’m tearing up

This is one of the first times it's truly hit me how meaningful this show must be for Josh.

To live through a turbulent childhood in which these food shows were probably a significant and welcome distraction. To now, sitting down and having meaningful conversation with those same television figures, on his own show. And to be treated as a peer by those you looked up to?

I wouldn't be able to sit through it, I'd be in tears after realizing just how incredible it is.

Well done Josh, and thank you for such an incredible format where strangers can bond over life and food

"You said ethyl esters. We're going to be friends." So nice to see a young man getting along so well with his Dad!

The grilled cheese conversation is sublime. Alton recognizing a real vulnerability and unlocking in himself that shared experience was beautiful

The gentle smile and saying "this is the back of my wife's neck" while smelling the peach is such a simple, genuine and beautiful sentiment, and then followed with "when you love something you find things that no one else does" is so true.

I've always loved Alton and thought he was the most real person in media, but since he's come back, done his own channel and gone on these interviews he's just become so open, not just about cooking, but about life.

I feel like this episode was the opposite of a “don’t meet your heroes” episode. Alton is somehow everything you’d think he’d be and more. What a lovely man, and lovely episode.

Holy hell! The look on Alton's face when he realized Josh was talking about him as his role model... My heart...

this episode was romantic as hell. intimate in it's personality. it's the sort of personable conversation you'd hope to have along with your last meal.

Josh has to hold back his emotions so much in this. It's amazing to see. He's had legendary people on this show before, but no one has messed him up the way Alton has.

how cathartic it must be as an interviewer to hear the person you just spent an hour talking to say that if their plane went down today they’d be okay. what a terrific interview

I'm consistently impressed by Josh's ability to respectfully challenge or push back against guests in a way that allows them to reflect and be willing to be more vulnerable.
This is so much better than exclusively fawning over the guest or their work, and makes any praise seem that much more sincere.
    Fantastic program.

49:48 the ending moved me to tears, the way josh looks away as his idol not only calls him his friend, but he would be content with this being truly his final meal
