December 1987. The Tonight Show. Cher was about to open Moonstruck, the film that would finally make Hollywood take her seriously. Then Johnny Carson brought out a surprise guest: Stevie Ray Vaughan. And when Stevie went to sit beside her, Cher stood up and moved to another chair.
What happened in the next fifteen minutes left Johnny Carson speechless: one quiet question, a confession Stevie had never made on television, and two minutes of music nobody in that studio ever forgot.
