Today, more people are living past 100 than ever before — even though the maximum human lifespan hasn't moved past 115 years. But is that about to change?

"Pushing Limits" host Daniel T. Allen spent months talking to longevity researchers, biohackers, and centenarians. He also went through a battery of tests worth over $12,000 at a longevity clinic to find out how long he might live.

From FDA-approved drugs to cellular reprogramming to Bryan Johnson's $2 million "Don't Die" protocol, what could actually lead to radical human life extension?

All these old people are living in nice old folks homes. Thus if you want to live long, be rich.

My grandmother passed at 108 a couple of months ago. The goal is to keep moving.

I personally wouldn’t want to be over 90. Unless I was somehow still healthy and ambulatory, the daily care requirements just get more and more complicated as you age. I wouldn’t want to be a burden on others while contributing nothing back.

just keep in mind that if everyone starts to live for 115 years, then the age at which you can retire would also increase. Imagen working until you are 80 years old

So the 108 yo woman didn't suffer from the disease of poverty if her family had a cook. I think that IS something working in her favour.

I don't wish to live too long. I just want a good quality of life to the end. Happy and healthy.

My dad lived to 89 even with serious heart and mobility issues. Beyond a certain point his body stopped being able to heal itself, and he got so weak he couldn’t swallow his pain meds. His body was beyond ready to stop. Lots of powerful drugs kept him going far beyond the point at which his quality of life dropped below anything he would have wanted.
His end of life care instructions were clear and he never wavered about it, but the whole medical care industry is built on sustaining life regardless of the quality of life.
Without those instructions and good rapport with his primary care physician, he could have easily wound up doing a lot more suffering before the end. Dad kept thinking that he would just peacefully pass at home, but his medications prevented that. He lived until he couldn’t swallow his medications.
Whatever medical science has in mind, I think it is pretty clear that our lives will never be limitless, and that’s a very good thing.

It’s not how long you live but how well you live

My great uncle is 104 and still healthy and strong enough to walk on his own unassisted and largely takes care of himself. I think the biggest key for people hitting these advanced ages is to keep your body moving and active. Don’t let your family take care of all of your needs or your body will become weak and at those ages any kind of weakness can quickly spiral into death.

Like the first old lady said, she grew up rich. That's probably most of what you need to do to live long.

I don’t want to outlive everyone I’ve ever loved only to be 115 and alone.

I don't care about living more; I care about having a good quality of life and healthy and dignified last years.

Don’t pay $10k-20k for these medical work ups.

You can fly to a place like Japan, Thailand, or Korea, have a nice vacation, and get all the same medical work ups for $10k. And that’s with having a nice week vacation after the 4-5 hours you spend doing the tests and scans
