From the Café Sperl, Vienna, Austria (2011)
"Vienna 1900 – The Philharmonics" is an evocative tribute to the golden age of Viennese musical culture. Recorded at the historic Café Sperl, the program captures the intimate atmosphere where legendary arrangements were first conceived. The ensemble, consisting of members from the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, specializes in the sophisticated transcriptions of the Second Viennese School. Works by Johann Strauss are presented in refined arrangements by Schönberg, Berg, and Webern, bridging popular dance music with modern intellectualism. The reception of this project has highlighted its charm and technical precision in reviving the "Schrammel" tradition. Musically, the recital explores the transition from late Romanticism to early Modernism. Fritz Kreisler’s miniatures add a layer of nostalgic elegance to the diverse program. The setting of a traditional Viennese café provides an authentic backdrop that enhances the listener's connection to the era. The recording serves as a cultural testament to the enduring influence of Vienna's artistic heritage.

This is one of the most creative presentations of this kind of music, as it would be for regular people in a café, or even in a public place. Sure the coffee and cake costs a bit more, but the music.... ahhhh!
Ausgezeichnet!

Love Kovacs Klezmer arrangement! (Herr Kovacs, your namesake ancestor from Bratislava would be proud.) And a staccato with a German bass bow! marvelous!

On pourrait se croire à bord du Titanic ! Mais le naufrage, ce sera pour la France en 2027 dans quelques mois. Macron, lui, a déjà quitté le navire !
