Forgot to mention that YouTube Premium also comes with YouTube Music, so technically you are getting music streaming AND ad-free YouTube for only $14/mo. YouTube also pays artists 2x more per stream than Spotify does, so it's a good deal for you and a better deal for artists too. Buying music directly is still best for artists, but if you can't afford that YT premium is a good option.

Grocery tip: shop at ethnic grocery stores near you! We love the veggie, spice, and legume sections at our local Indian grocery store, and the prices are incredible as well. We also love our local Asian and global grocery stores that also have amazing offerings. If you’re more of an ingredient household, this also works well. I’m not sure if it’s by you, but if you have an Aldi, that is the BEST for random runs for things we need and for the off brand of foods we love, like off brand Coke, breads, cheeses, and cured meats. Aldi is pretty ethical and very affordable, so I love supporting them while also cutting down on my grocery bill!

My library also has Kanopy, you should see if yours has it. I am also a big fan of the DVD/blu ray selection. No ads, no distracts, no buffering.

PS thank you for plugging the library

Remember, if your library doesn't have a movie you're looking for, they can probably borrow it from another library. Not all libraries can afford hoopla but they can generally find you the DVD

Yep! I broke up with the oligarchy the day after the 2024 election. It took me 5 months to “consciously uncoupled” with Amazon but WOW, did it feel good when I was able to cancel the account!! Great video and thanks for the ideas your viewers (and you) have provided!

Companies are realizing customers are getting tired of paying monthly for things that were free in the past and instead of letting it go, they're trying to double down by removing the ability to a choice.

Re candle refills: the company Arbor Made makes refillable candles. You do have to buy their containers, but I have reused their containers over and over for candles. They also use paper packaging and are environmentally conscious.

re refills: a lot of middle eastern/south east asian grocery shops have lots of dry goods in bulk for refills!

I'd add the Internet Archive for movies and books. Also supermarkets sometimes sell ugly fruit and vegetables at a discount because they're harder to sell. They make great ingredients for stews, soups, salads etc since you're going to chop them up anyway. Also buy premade meals/rotisserie chicken etc at the end of the day for a discount because the store wants to get rid of them. It's up to you tho if you want to eat something sitting in the heater all day lol

I have a brilliant idea. I'm going to open a place. A place where someone can go and look at actual THINGS. And decided whether or not they want to buy them. I think I'll call it... a SHOWROOM. Or a STORE. (He said sarcastically.) I hate the fact that I have to order most things I need off Amazon. You just can find anything anymore. That, or you end up paying much more for it after running around the entire day. I wish Trader Joes had better food Not everything is a hit there. I do like me some Aldi (Trade Joe's brother.). That and I shop at BJ's.

Darn tough socks are made of ethically sourced merino wool and have a lifetime warranty for any reason you need replacements. Also, youtube plays ads that ask for donations to support gaza. Personally, I just an ad-blocker or just download music and support my favorite creators/bands through patreon/bandcamp/etc

another suggestion i have for grocery stores is WinCo!! it's employee ran with the pricing, meaning the employees choose the prices for items!! (usually they're SUPER low!) and they treat their employees really well, too! the only "issue" with WinCo is just the children there.. (kind of how every store is when it's busy tho, if ppl were more better about keeping their kids by the carts for their safety, then i think it'd be fine for anyone! tldr; just watch out for running children x'D)

I only buy natural beeswax candles from native American Ioway bee farm and veteran owned Register Family honey bee farm. They don’t have any dangerous chemicals in them and I feel good supporting these businesses.

Fyi, if you pay for YouTube you have access to "YouTube music" (music streaming) included. It's not a particularly ethical solution but it's something you're already paying for.
