At just 5 feet 10 inches Mike Tyson was a Heavy Weight champion. Beating much bigger guys. Mike Tyson always amazed me!

Peek a boo technique had ruddock confused. Love the fact that even with the rivalry rematch ending had both men showing respect at the end of the match….

These guys went 12 rounds and still looked fresh after it was all done. It's insane how fit and exceptional they were at the time.

You can really tell that, especially in the rematch, both men went in fully intending to take down their opponent. Every blow was thrown with the worst of intentions. Come round 5, they stop throwing after the bell, and though they're still looking to hurt each other, it really shows that they can't help but respect and even admire the toughness, determination, and grit of the other fighter.

It's that weird moment where both men realise that in order to beat their enemy, they have to give him respect, and acknowledge that it'll take the best version of themselves to beat the person they hated. That's the kind of "respect" boxers talk about, and you see it develop here in real time.

Especially the touching of gloves at the start of the final round. Tyson acknowledged the respect, but didn't fully trust the situation and only did so from behind the referee.

After the fight, Tyson was humble, and expressed admiration for Ruddock, even later on in his career. As a kid, watching Tyson fight, I've always thought that Ruddock 2 was pivotal in shaping Tyson's peekaboo style. In the early 80s, he did a lot more ducking than weaving. His head stayed mostly on that centre line. It was during this fight you can see the start of Mikey Mike slowly working his way up to iron Mike
