$39 round trip Denver to Chicago meant so much when I was flying to Chicago every week when my mom was dying of cancer. It truly was a blessing because I got to spend a lot of time with her.

My small ray of hope in the Spirit Airline closure was the story about the Spirit airline pilot being chauffeured by a different airline company to his last flight before retirement when the call to shut down was made. The airline that was bringing him did as much of the Last Flight rites as they could for him. They got out the firetrucks, made two lines of flight crew cheering and clapping him on as he got off the plane, and I think gave him something to commemorate his service. Like, they didn't have to do that, but these flight crew members knew what a Last Flight meant to a pilot and did that for him as a passenger. I legit cried.

Founded in 1964 as Clippert trucking company; 62 years ago.
Began charter tour operations in 1983 as Charter One Airlines; 43 years ago.
Moved to commercial flying as Spirit Airlines on May 29, 1992; 33 years ago.

What's heartbreaking is that SEVENTEEN THOUSAND people lost their jobs, in one fell swoop, because of the hubris of those we put in government.
The American economy is being bankrupted IN REAL TIME. We are simply not angry enough.

I feel terrible for the employees. I heard a recording of a pilot, addressing his passengers, at 3:00AM, and he was crying. It made me cry, too.

10:17 aircraft mechanic here. I see posts about this fairly often. The mechanics in those situations are using what’s called speed tape, which is made of aluminum and is used for temporary repairs in certain circumstances. If you see it being used, I can guarantee you there’s nothing wrong that’s serious enough to keep the plane from being airworthy.

Spirit was the #1 safest airline in America. It was well known amongst pilots as the hardest training in the industry. Many of us are veterans. Please be kind when talking about Spirit. This was a huge loss for our country. Passengers will see tickets prices go up with Spirit out of the picture.
