If Kat Graham wasn't in TVD I probably wouldn't have watched until the final season. Nina aka Elena was the glue that held the show together in the beginning but after she left, I realized that Kat aka Bonnie was the Super glue that helped give TVD such and amazing arc. Bonnie and Damon were my favorite friendship pairing, and when Nina left that was their time to let Bamon have their chance at love because their chemistry was 💥💣

I have never watched the show but the videos that I have seen with these 2 characters always showed amazing chemistry.
From what I understood they were a couple in the books.
Damon and Bonnie not being endgame was a huge missed opportunity. The writers had gold in their hands and fumbled hard. Shame on them.
And off topic: Bonnie/Kat Graham is so pretty.

Damon didn't like seeing Kai flirting with Bonnie, judging by the face she made when he approached her.It's so sweet how Damon and Bon Bon went from not being able to stand each other to being best friends.

BAMON ENDGAME My Edit:
Damon will say: “There’s another reason I let go of Elena. I love her, or maybe I just wanted to win at something or wanted someone who wanted Stefan to choose me. I never thought i could feel stronger for anyone, till I had two chances to get her back and I didn’t. That’s when I knew.
When I desiccated myself, I told you I was doing it to keep you safe, I lied Bonnie. I was in love with you and I didn’t want to deal with it. Because for the first time, it felt like I’d have the kind of love I always wanted and it felt right and terrifying, so I ran.
You’re the kindest most selfless person I know. You wanted to help me get Elena back even though I know you love me too. have never met anyone like you, how could I not love you?!

B: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
—
D: I know you feel it too. You asked me not to run, so don’t run. Why did it hurt so much when I left?
It broke me to see what I had done to you, to us. I love you and I know you love me too.

B: Damon please! She steps backwards and he comes closer to her, gently removing her hair from her face, his eyes locked into hers, her breath rapid from fighting the urge to let herself go, and him staring at her lips like he used to in the prison world, fighting the urge to wrap his arms around her and never let go.

B: Of course I love you Damon! you’re my best friend and somewhere along the line, I .. I started feeling it too. pause and get choked up I think I love you too, Damon.

He rushes at her and scoops her in his arms. They share a passionate, hungry kiss, like all the angst and unresolved tension is finally acknowledged. She wraps her legs around his waist and he rips off her blouse, kissing her neck.

Then he stops and stares at her and says, I loved Elena, Bonnie, but you, you’re something else, you’re my home and I don’t want to live if you’re not in it (recall when he said if anything happened to her he’d lose his mind).

Then they’ll do a recall of moments throughout the show where Damon fell for her and didn’t realize, starting from their first dance where someone as selfish and heartless as him went out of his way to ensure she didn’t die. They’ll show where she passed out and he carried her to his car and gently removed the hair from her face after staring at it lovingly.
They’ll contrast Elena who fell for Damon because she saw the humanity in him but now being in a relationship and spending time with him, declares she now sees a monster but loving him has a hold on her VS Bonnie who starts out seeing the monster and wants him gone but after spending time with him, sees his humanity and tells him there’s hope for him and his inner child looks like it got a hug. She focuses on his redemption and correctly channels the monster in him.
They’ll flashback and we’ll see Bonnie talking in her sleep and Damon will turn to make sure she’s ok, when he sees she’s fine, he’ll watch her for a bit, give a faint smile, pull the hair away from her face and kiss her forehead (tying it to the time at the shop when he told her she talks in her sleep).

Finally Damon gives up vampirism for Bonnie (because with Elena he resents that she complains about how he acts and claims she’s trying to change him to Stefan. Damon letting go of Elena needed to be his growth arc, while she cracked his heart open, her love wasn’t enough to make him do better. I mean he tried killing her brother a second time and killed her friend to punish her for breaking up with him. Damon was a pit stop for Elena to embrace her dark side but wasn’t his redemption/healing/end game.
With Bonnie he truly becomes better mostly and even asks her to make him the best he can be, that’s love!

They get married with twins (Sheila after grams and Stefan) who Damon makes pancakes for on Saturdays. Sheila will ask why daddy always draws a face in their pancake and Damon will say “that’s how I got your mom”.
Bonnie will throw a piece of pancake at him and he’ll grab her by the waist and kiss her. The children will be rightly irked by the PDA.
Bonnie lost her first love at the hands of 1 brother and found her epic love at the hands of the other. It’s poetic!

Kai was one of the few characters they added that I wanted to stay. He was a sociopath but hey Klaus kinda was too and he ended up being useful in the plot.
