A full unabridged audiobook of the classic short story, "Clay", by James Joyce - complete with sounds and visuals. This is Part Ten of "Dubliners".
Part Ten deals with the reflections of a middle-aged, unmarried woman named Maria during the course of her day. Maria, a tiny, middle-aged, well-loved, and peacemaking woman with a job in Dublin by Lamplight, a rescue mission for wayward women, is looking forward to Hallows Eve at the house of Joe, whom she nursed when he was a boy, along with his brother Alphy, and of whom she is still very fond.
Maria is soon enticed into playing a traditional Hallow Eve game with the children in which objects are placed in saucers and a blindfolded player has to pick among them. Each object is supposed to have a prophetic significance. The title suggests that one of the children surreptitiously placed a lump of clay in one of the saucers from which the children have to choose their fate, representing death, meaning that the person will die soon.
Dubliners is a collection of fifteen short stories by James Joyce, written from 1904 to 1907. First published in 1914, Dubliners presents a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle-class life in and around Dublin in the early twentieth century.

Hey, thank you so much for this recording! I've been researching Joyce in my Masters and for me there's no other way to read him except by listening to it at the same time. It's a whole new experience, especially when so beautifully made!

This in my humble opinion shows the life for a single unmarried woman 👩🏾 has not changed. Some how society expect unmarried childless women to be like a primadonna comforting society whilst mocking and taking advantage of her status . She reminds me of the song 🎵 half way down the stairs. Thank you, Elliot. You read it very well ❤Joyce is a great and talented writer. Powerful and inspiring writing too

Loved the picture on this one, especially the kittens.

There seems to be a balance of light and dark in this whole series often in unexpected ways like the hint that it was the gentleman that stole, for instance, that is fascinating me. You're inspiring me to explore Joyce a bit more. A lot of this I didn't understand. Like what she felt on the table. Some I'm just not familiar with the traditions but can somewhat follow but didn't really get what the trick played on her was. I've order the book to read myself and I suspect that more James Joyce will follow after that. But I'm waiting 'til after you finish it.
